Box Score LOS ANGELES, California – Dylan Joyce's fourth home run in as many games was a grand slam as the Puget Sound baseball team finished its four-game California trip with an 11-5 win at Occidental Sunday. Joyce is now tied with Mark Rockey '10 for the most home runs in school history (29).

The Loggers are 4-0 to start the season. They beat Whittier three teams between Friday and Saturday, and Joyce homered three times against the Poets.

For the third consecutive game, Puget Sound scored in the top of the first. Cody Hirano led off against the Tigers with a bunt single, and he took second base on wild pitch. Joyce then followed with a single up the middle to put the Loggers on the board.

Occidental tied the game in the second inning, but Puget Sound put two more runs on the board in the third inning, one of which came via an RBI single by Hirano.

The Loggers began to really pull away in the fifth inning when the scored three runs. Joyce hit a sac fly, and Makana Murashige hit an RBI double.

Joyce's grand slam came in the sixth inning. Mitchell Nabeta led off by reaching base on an error, and Cooper Allen followed with a pinch-hit double. Hirano got to first base on an error by the shortstop, but neither baserunner advanced.

Occidental chose to pitch to Joyce with the bases loaded. He probably should have received the Barry Bonds treatment, instead.

Puget Sound used eight different pitchers, and they combined to allow just three earned runs. Henry Baker was the nominal started and he pitched the first two innings. Bennett Allen earned his first-career victory.

The Loggers return to California next week for a doubleheader at Caltech (Feb. 11), followed by one game at Redlands (Feb. 12).
