Puget Sound returns home to host Whitworth

TACOMA, Washington – After winning its first two Northwest Conference games of the season at Lewis & Clark (March 11-12), the Puget Sound softball team returns to Logger Field for four games against Whitworth, March 18-19.
 
The J-Mo Show
Jessica Moore went 7-for-13 at the plate during the Loggers' series at Lewis & Clark. She increased her batting average to a team-leading .419.
 
Newman's no newb
Mikayla Newman blasted her first home run of the season against Lewis & Clark last week. She has eight-career home runs with the Maroon & White.
 
Driver's seat
Savanna Smith has driven in a team-high 11 runs this season. She recorded five RBI in the series at Lewis & Clark. Smith's .364 batting average this season trails only Jessica Moore for the Loggers.
 
Picking their spots
Puget Sound is 14-for-16 in stolen bases attempts this season. Hailee Ueymama is 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts, while Mikayla Newman is 3-for-3. Brenna Flannery has been thrown out just once in four attempts.
 
Patience at the plate
So far this season Savanna Smith has drawn five walks and struck out only twice. Hailee Ueyama also has more walks (5) than strikeouts (4).
 
Scouting Whitworth (5-4, 2-1 NWC)
The Pirates began their NWC season by winning two of three games at Pacific (March 5-6). A fourth game between the two teams is suspended with the score tied, 2-2. The Pirates have the second-best ERA in the NWC (2.64). Momi Lyman (22.1 IP) has a 2.19 ERA, and Corinne Vasiloff (34.0 IP) has a 2.47 ERA. Offensively, Taylor Hofheins leads the team in hitting with a .500 average (20 AB). Dating back to the 2019 season, the Pirates are 11-1 against Puget Sound.
