Game Recap: Softball |

Moore hits first home run of season against Willamette

TACOMA, Washington – Emily Moore hit her first home run of the season, but the Puget Sound softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at home against Willamette Sunday.

Puget Sound 3, Willamette 9
Jazzy Allen had her second multi-hit game of the season, but Puget Sound lost Sunday's first game, 9-3.

The Bearcats had a 7-0 lead before the Loggers finally got on the board in the fifth inning. Sofia Gonzales led off with an infield single, and Allen immediately followed with a single to left field.

Two batters later, Mikayla Newman reached on an error to load the bases. Jessica Moore lifted a fly ball to right field, and Willamette dropped a would-be putout as all three baserunners came in to score and Moore slid safely into third base.

However, the Loggers went down in order in both the sixth and eventh innings.

Puget Sound 4, Willamette 7

Emily Moore launched her first home run of the season in the seventh inning, but it was too little, too late was the Bearcats won the second game, 7-4.

Puget Sound was in a 7-1 deficit entering the seventh inning. Livi Figueroa led off with a single, but then the next two Loggers got out.

Mikayla Newman kept the game alive with a single to center, and Moore followed by clearing the fence in centerfield. It was the sophomore's third-career home run.

Newman and Moore both finished the game with multiple hits.

The Loggers are on the road next week at Lewis & Cark, March 11-12.
