Box Score 2 TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound baseball team twice nearly overcame significant deficits late in games, but the Loggers lost both contests to Pacific Lutheran at Logger Field Saturday.

Puget Sound 8, Pacific Lutheran 9
The Loggers nearly overcame a four-run deficit in the late innings, but Pacific Lutheran barely held on for a 9-8 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Puget Sound entered the home half of the eighth inning in a 9-5, but
Gabe Huante,
Sean Murphy, and
Gio Parascondola drew consecutive walks to load the bases.
Nicholas Prater came up big with a two-run single, and
Joshua Carrillo followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to just one run.

The Loggers sat the Lutes down in order in the top of the ninth, setting up a dramatic end to the game.

Makana Murashige led off the home half of the ninth with a walk, and he tagged up to into scoring position on a long flyout by
Nathan Blocher. Following another flyout, Murashige slid safely into third base on a wild pitch. However, he was left stranded 90 feet from home.

Drew Kamihara each collected two hits in the game.

Puget Sound 9, Pacific Lutheran 13
Similarly to the first game, Puget Sound made a late bid to at least send it into extra innings, but the Loggers' ninth-inning rally came up short after sending the would-be tying run to the plate.

The Loggers entered the bottom of the ninth inning in a 13-6 deficit, but
Drew Kamihara got the rally started with a leadoff walk, and
Makana Murashige immediately followed with a single. Two batters later,
Davis Franklin ripped an RBI single to right field, as Murashige moved to third base.

Nathan Blocher crushed a double as Marashige easily trotted home, and
Nicholas Prater hit a single to bring in Davis.
Aidan Sullivan then drew a walk to load the bases with the Loggers down by four, 13-9.

However, PLU retired the next two Puget Sound hitters to win the second game of the day.

Blocher hit his third home run of the season – a solo shot – in the fourth inning.

Four Loggers totaled three hits, each:
Drew Kamihara, Murashige, Franklin, Blocher.
