Moore ties Puget Sound record in season finale

TACOMA, Washington – Jessica Moore tied a Puget Sound record as the Logger softball team kept pace with No. 6 Linfield through six innings, but the Wildcats had a big seventh inning to win, 14-3. It was Puget Sound's final game of the 2023 season.

Jessica Moore ripped her 16th double of the season in the first inning, matching Victoria Raeburn's record that has stood since 2009. Moore had a chance to break the record in the fifth inning, be she legged out her only triple of the season, instead.

Savanna Smith's prowess in the circle, coupled with several clutch hits, allowed the Loggers to enter the seventh inning tied with nationally-ranked Linfield.

Following Moore's record-tying double in the first inning, Smith drove her in with an RBI single to put the Loggers on the board first. Linfield tied the game in the third inning, but it didn't take long for the Loggers to reclaim the lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Smith led off with a single, and two batters later she moved into scoring position when Jazzy Allen grounded out. Hope Fleischman came through with a big two-out single to score Smith and give the Loggers a 2-1 lead.

The Wildcats took a 3-2 advantage in the top of the fifth, but the Loggers answered in the home half of the frame. Emily Moore reached base via an error with one out in the fifth inning. She moved up to third base on a wild pitch, and easily scored on Jessica Moore's triple.

However, the Loggers committed four errors in the top of the seventh inning, allowing Linfield to score 11 unearned runs.

Smith allowed just three earned three earned runs in 6.1 innings in the circle. She and Jessica Moore both finished the game with two hits.

Tuesday began with a completion of a suspended game from April 8. The game resumed with the Wildcats holding a 4-2 lead through four innings, and they won it, 6-2. Hailee Ueyama hit a home run in the first inning of that game.
