Loggers set to host a rare three-game weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound lacrosse team hosts a rare three-game weekend when Whitworth and Whitman visit Tacoma, April 7-9. The Loggers take on the Pirates Friday at 4 p.m., followed by games against Whitman Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.). Sunday's game is a make-up from a contest that was previously scheduled for March 4 in Walla Walla.
 
Well rested
The Loggers had the weekend of from games last weekend (April 1-2). Puget Sound is in the midst of a nine-game homestand.
 
Rookie sensation
Freshman Cat Schilli has 26 goals this season – she is the Northwest Conference's third-leading scorer among all freshmen. Schilli is first Logger freshman to eclipse 25 goals in a season since Jenna Kisner netted 32 scores in 12 games during the 2019 season.
 
Hitting the century mark
Senior Emily LaRiviere is the seventh Logger in program history to eclipse 100 career points. For her career, she has 80 goals and 24 assists with five games remaining in 2023. LaRiviere is currently Puget Sound's No. 8 all-time leading scorer, but she can move up to No. 6 this weekend.
 
Oh, Hider
Maddie Hider leads Puget Sound's defensive efforts with 17 caused turnovers through nine games.
 
Scouting Whitworth (5-8, 3-5 NWC)
The Pirates' defense has caused the most turnovers in the NWC (183), and they rank second in ground balls (331). Megan Whitman has a team-leading 21 goals. Sierra Witte has 19 scores, and Kenzie Hemman follows closely with 18. The Pirates allow 13 goals per game, and just over nine on average. Whitworth snapped a six-game losing streak when it beat Linfield, 10-6 (March 26), and it followed that with a 13-3 win over Cal Lutheran (March 30). The Pirates most recently lost to Occidental, 20-6 (March 31). They take on Whitman Wednesday, April 5. Puget Sound beat Whitworth, 11-9, in Spokane earlier this season (March 5).
 
Scouting Whitman (9-3, 6-1 NWC)
The Blues have a five-game winning streak that will be tested by Whitworth Wednesday, April 5. Whitman has the conference's two leading scorers: Madeleine Sherry (56) and Erin Magnuson (47). The Blues also lead the NWC in ground balls (344) and rank second in save percentage (.458). Whitman and Puget Sound split both head-to-head games in 2022.
