TACOMA, Washington – Cat Schilli tied her season-high in scoring with six goals, but the Puget Sound lacrosse team lost to Whitworth, 15-11, in Baker Stadium Friday afternoon.
The Pirates opened the game with a 4-1 lead, but consecutive goals by Schilli and
Maya Sheklow brought the Loggers to within a goal, 4-3, through the first 15 minutes of the game.
Whitworth reclaimed a three-goal lead, 7-4, but once against Puget Sound fought back to get within one score.
Emily LaRiviere found the back of the net midway through the second quarter. Less than two minutes later, Schilli scored her fourth goal of the game to bring the Loggers to within 7-6.
The Pirates closed the first half with three consecutive goals, and they opened the second half with three consecutive goals.
Despite the 13-6 deficit, Puget Sound kept up its relentless attack. A goal by Sheklow sparked a 5-0 run, and Schilli's sixth goal of the game brought the Loggers to within 13-11 with 8:45 left in regulation.
However, it was Puget Sound's final goal of the game.
Sheklow finished the game with three goals, and LaRiviere scored twice.
Puget Sound next hosts Whitman Saturday, April 8, at 3 p.m.
