Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – Puget Sound took a quick trip for its first road match of the Northwest Conference season, traveling to Pacific Lutheran University for a mid-week competition. In a four-set battle, Puget Sound struggled to hold leads in sets three and four falling to PLU 3-1 with set scores of 26-24, 19-25, 22-25, 20-25. The Loggers move to 2-1 in NWC play and 9-2 overall.
Behind six service aces, with five coming from
Katelyn Chekian, the Loggers pushed ahead to capture the first set 26-24. Chekian also converted five kills in the set with
Mackenzie Leith adding seven.
PLU grabbed the early lead in the second set and held on for a 25-19 win. The tightly contested play continued into the third set with Puget Sound maintaining a narrow lead until PLU jumped ahead at 20-21 late in the set before taking the 25-22 win. The Loggers held a comfortable lead early in the fourth set, but stalled out late losing 25-20.
Puget Sound finished with a .064 hitting percentage and couldn't get anything going defensively at the net. Leith finished with 18 kills for the night and the team had a total of nine service aces.
Puget Sound will look to get back on track when they next travel to Lewis & Clark on Saturday, September 23.
