Men's soccer suffers 3-1 defeat at Willamette

Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Puget Sound men's soccer traveled for their first Northwest Conference game on the road against Willamette University on Saturday, resulting in a 3-1 loss against the Bearcats. The Loggers fell short of a comeback after giving up two goals in the first 20 minutes of play. 

Willamette dominated the first half scoring two goals with 11 shots off, compared to Puget Sound's five. 

In the second half, the Loggers managed to close the gap with a penalty kick by Graham Hall, narrowing the deficit to one goal. Puget Sound continued to press to try and even the game, but Willamette was able to deliver its final score of the game at the 78th minute to extend the lead 3-1 to finish it out. Logger forward Stuart Methner delivered five of Puget Sound's 14 shots - with nine of the Loggers shots coming in the second half. Goalkeeper Ryan Saunders finished with five saves in the goal.  

The loss brings Puget Sound's record to 0-1-1 in conference play, and 2-2-1 overall. Puget Sound will face Lewis & Clark on Sunday. This marks Lewis & Clark's inaugural season in NWC men's soccer play.
