TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound men's basketball team delivered an outstanding performance offensively and defensively in the 99-79 win against George Fox University on Saturday night in Memorial Fieldhouse.
Liam Ruttledge led the scoring with a game-high 18 points going 5-of-9 from the floor, while
Taj Phillips followed with 17 points, seven assists and four rebounds in the dominant win.
The fans were hyped after the women's team win, but were stunned when the men's basketball team couldn't land a shot and the George Fox Bruins slipped in three consecutive jumpers to take a 6-0 lead. The Loggers quickly responded tying it up three minutes later. Puget Sound caught a rhythm halfway through the first half and continued to push to an 11-point run, the Bruins wouldn't catch another lead.
Going into the second half the Loggers continued to extend their lead, shooting for 59% and going 8-of-13 from beyond the arc. The Loggers were up by 30 with 7:03 left in regulation from consecutive seven point runs.
Ian Cook went 5-for-5 from the floor and the Loggers added 32 points off the bench.
Zane Miller led the defensive pressure with nine rebounds, three assists and 15 points.
Hugo Rutherfurd had eight rebounds, while
Dezman Baker finished with seven boards and 15 points.
The Loggers face Linfield University next Friday, Feb. 2 in Memorial Fieldhouse at 8 p.m.
