TACOMA, Washington (October 12, 2024) - The Loggers (9-7, 6-2 NWC) fought hard against the undefeated Whitworth Pirates (16-2, 8-0 NWC), but were unable to avoid the sweep.  

The Loggers and the Pirates went point for point in the first set, but ultimately the Pirates gained momentum and took the set 20-25. The Loggers topped the Pirates in attacks, 37-34. but less errors for the Pirates and four aces led to their success.

In the second set the Loggers were consistently behind the Pirates and unable to pull ahead. The margin never surpassed five points but in the end the Pirates won 21-25. Despite an even number of attacks, the Loggers hitting percentage was 18%, compared to the Pirates 28%.

To start the third set the Pirates went up 0-6 and the Loggers struggled to match pace. They were able to get within two points near the end of the set to make it 17-19, but ultimately the Pirates won out 21-25. Maddie Badger led the team with 11.5 points from her eight kills and 3.5 blocks, followed by Erin Fagan with 11 kills and Mackenzie Leith with six kills and two aces.

The Loggers will have another chance against Whitworth on Nov 8th in Spokane. Their next game is on the road against Linfield University Friday Oct 18th at 7pm.
