Loggers Claw Past The Bearcats

SALEM, Oregon (October 19, 2024) - The Logger (11-7, 8-2 NWC) volleyball team wraps up their weekend in Oregon with another 3-1 win against the Willamette Bearcats (6-13, 5-6 NWC).

The Loggers got off to a slow start, dropping the first set to the Bearcats 15-25. A negative hitting percentage for the Loggers contributed to the Bearcats pulling away and taking the lead. Going into the second set, the Loggers started to turn things around. With nine kills, two aces, and 13 digs, the Loggers led the entire set. The Bearcats dug in and earned three consecutive points to prevent the Loggers from closing out, but eventually fell 25-23.

It was clear that the momentum had shifted towards the Loggers as they only conceded nine points and took the third set in quick fashion. At the start of the fourth set it appeared that the Loggers were going to run away with the win, going up 22-12. However, the Bearcats came back to tie the set 24-24, capitalizing on their serves, scoring off four aces, and on errors by the Loggers. Erin Fagan earned the 25th point with a kill and an error by the Bearcats secured the set for the Loggers 26-24.

Fagan led the team with 13 kills and two aces, while Mackenzie Leith contributed 11 kills and two blocks. Maddie Badger and Mia Fedota also contributed heavily with seven points and 6.5 points, respectively.

The Loggers return home Tuesday October 22 to rematch Pacific Lutheran University at 7pm. The Lutes also defeated Willamette and Linfield this weekend and currently sit one place above the Loggers in conference standings.
