TACOMA, Washington (October 5, 2024) - Logger Football (1-3, 0-1 NWC) scored touchdowns on each of their first four drives today against the Pacific University Boxers.
Mason Binning was on point all throughout the first half, taking the offense into his own hands as the Loggers continued to batter the Boxer defense. Binning finished the game with 314 yards with three touchdowns, and was only sacked once. UPS had a total of 32 first downs throughout the game, where Pacific finished with 21. The Logger offense, led by QB Binning and RB
Henry Hernandez, who had 120 rushing yards, totaled 525 all-purpose yards, and Pacific was close behind with 498.
Unfortunately, the Loggers were unable to hold the lead despite being 10 for 19 on third downs, when the Boxers were able to rally in the second half. After 34 points in the first half, the Maroon & White were outplayed in the third and fourth quarters. The Boxers were able to conjure a rally consisting of 35 unanswered points, while their defense simultaneously held the Loggers to zero points.
The Loggers had a staggering 100 plays, where the Boxers finished the game with just 44. The Boxers' success didn't come just on offense, but rather explosive plays and efficient work to the end zone after gaining possession. Boxer Zion Booker returned a sole
Thomas Goeglein rugby-style punt for a 72-yard touchdown after letting the ball roll, scooping it in stride and turning to the field side, riding his sideline to the end zone. Then, later in the fourth quarter, Boxer RB Brody Bantolina capped his 217-yard performance with a 97 yard rushing touchdown to set the final score at 34-62.Â
Logger Head Coach Jeff Thomas recognizes the work that must be done to rebound next week at George Fox. "We didn't play well enough to win in all three phases - offensively, defensively, and in special teams" said Thomas. "We had some tremendous individual and team performances on offense today but on defense and special teams we have to learn to play as a cohesive unit to begin to play championship Logger football."
The Loggers take on George Fox in Newberg, Oregon next Saturday, October 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 to accommodate for local network coverage out of Newberg. The Bruins lost today to Lewis & Clark in an extremely close 21-24 matchup. Live stream, live stats, and other pertinent information will be posted on the Logger Football schedule as it is made available to Logger Athletics.
