Women's Soccer Closes Out Season With 3-0 Win

SPOKANE, Washington (November 10, 2024) – The Loggers end their season with a dominating 3-0 win against the Whitworth Pirates.

Less than 10 minutes into the match Leila Hausia-Haugen put the Loggers on the board. Hausia-Haugen dribbled through the defensive line and was able to slot a shot in the corner of the net to put the Loggers up 1-0. The pressure continued and the Loggers got off three more shots, forcing the Pirates keeper to make two saves. Just before half, the Loggers lead was extended by Zoe Witter. Off a throw-in from Wynsome Painter, Witter lost her defender and used the space to place a shot over the head of the goalie.

The Loggers didn't let the half-time break slow them down. Just two minutes into the second half Zoe Fowler cut the ball back from the endline and a wide open Emma Pack was able to run into the box and lob a shot cross-net, scoring her first goal of the season.

Gianna Maldonado saved all five shots on goal made by the Pirates to record the shutout for the Loggers, her sixth of the season. The Loggers had only five shots on target as well, but were able to take better advantage of their chances. Throughout the game 16 fouls were called on the Loggers, a season high for the team, compared to the Pirates seven.

The Loggers end their season second in conference with a record of 9-1-6, 9-4-7 overall. The NCAA tournament bracket will be announced tomorrow at 11am with the first round starting on Saturday November 16. More information can be found on the NCAA website here.
