SPOKANE, Washington (November 15, 2024) - Third-seeded Logger Volleyball battled the second-seeded Pacific Lutheran Lutes tonight at Whitworth University's home court in the first game of the Northwest Conference Championships (NWC). The Loggers had hoped for a different end result this evening, ending their season with a 1-3 loss.
The Loggers were off to a hot start, securing the first six points of the game. The following points went back and forth, but the Lutes were unable to overcome the early deficit and the Loggers won the first set 25-22. The Loggers looked to continue their attack in the second set. Again, the score remained close between the two teams, but a five point streak near the end of the set secured the 19-25 win for the Lutes.Â
The third set was a similar story; neither team was able to get ahead by more than a few points and both teams took turns leading. It wasn't until the very end when the Lutes rattled off three straight points that they were able to break ahead and win 20-25. The Lutes took their momentum into the fourth set looking to advance to the NWC championship game. The Loggers were unable to gain any traction and force a fifth set as the Lutes led almost every point and eventually took the set 19-25.Â
Makela Pick led the Loggers tonight with 10 kills, followed by
Sarah Johnsen with eight kills as well as three blocks.Â
Maddie Badger recorded five kills and six blocks and
Mia Fedota also had a strong showing tonight with seven kills and two blocks.
The Loggers end their season with a record of 16-8, 13-3 in conference. They will be back next fall, looking to fill the gaps of the graduating seniors and build another successful season.
