Miller scores 20 as the Loggers cruise to 79-66 win at Lewis and Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. – Freshman Zane Miller leads Loggers by scoring 20 points off the bench going 7-for-12 from the floor and adding eight rebounds in the 79-66 win at Lewis and Clark on Friday night in Pamplin Sports Center. Men's basketball moves to 8-5 in the Northwest Conference. 

Dezman Baker led the defensive push with 10 rebounds and seven points, while Liam Ruttledge followed with 19 points shooting for 50% from beyond the arc. Hugo Rutherfurd converted 4-of-5 field goals in the win. Taj Phillips made a game-high eight assists adding six points and five rebounds. 

The Lewis and Clark Pioneers scored the opening two and fought for the lead seven times before the Loggers went on a 19-point run that ended in free-throws from Ruttledge at the 4:41 mark. The Puget Sound Texas increased its cushion to 44-16 after a Baker layup with 1:24 remaining in the half, but the Pioneers went on a good 6-0 run to end the half with the Loggers leading by 21 points.

Liam Ruttledge jumped to the first points in the second half. The Loggers would maintain a 20+ lead reaching a 29-point advantage after a three-point play from Miller at 6:49 left in regulation. The Pioneers finished the game with a 17-3 run to narrow the deficit to just 13 points. 

The Loggers shot for 48.4% with 42 points in the paint, while the Pioneers shot for just 31.1% and only 26 points in the paint. Puget Sound had 18 turnovers and the Pioneers allowed only 10 turnovers.

The Loggers will head to Willamette University on Saturday, February 10 to play at 8 p.m.
