TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound Loggers graduated three seniors before the Loggers fell to Whitworth University 77-53 in Memorial Fieldhouse.
Jack Bailey,
Kyle Wells, and
Will Mathews were all honored by the Logger community on Saturday.
After securing the victory, the Loggers, ranked fourth, are set to compete against Whitworth University, the top seed at the Northwest Conference Championships scheduled for Friday, February 23rd, at 8 p.m. on the Whitworth University Campus in Spokane.
The Loggers were head to head with the Whitworth Pirates trading scores back and forth until the Pirates went on an 8-0 run followed by a 12-0 run just minutes later that ended with the Loggers trailing 27-13. Ruttledge started some momentum to reduce the deficit to 10 points with 4:26 left in the first half, but quickly got caught in another draught. Whitworth outscored the Loggers 37-23 in the first half.
The Pirates continued to pull away leading by 20 points halfway through the second half, but the Loggers couldn't make much of a comeback only reducing the deficit to 13 points off a jumper from freshman
Hugo Rutherfurd.
Senior Mathews was the only Logger to score in double-digits adding 11 points and Bailey grabbed 10 rebounds in the first half.
Liam Ruttledge scored nine at a 50% rate, while Rutherfurd recorded three blocks, six rebounds and eight points going 3-for-4 from the floor.
