Loggers set to tip-off NCAA D-III Tournament for first time since 2015 at #13 Carroll University

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's basketball team (19-8) will tip-off with Division-III, 19th ranked Carroll University (23-4) in the first round of the NCAA Division-III Tournament on Friday, March 1, at 6 p.m. (8 p.m. CST) in Waekesha, Wisconsin. This will be the second Northwest Conference title in Logger women's basketball history. This will be the Loggers first time facing the Carroll Pioneers. 

This season the Loggers are leading the NWC in three categories, averaging points per game with 67, leading in 3-point field goals made with 7.6 per game, and finally in offensive rebounds with 14.6 per game. Katie Minnehan leads the nation as 22nd in the country grabbing 3.2 steals per game. Minnehan finished the season shooting for 45.1 percent overall. Paige Gerhart, selected for first team honors in the NWC, ranks 67th nationally in steals as she spearheads for the Loggers with 2.7 per game. Gerhart has played a vital role in securing more Logger victories than any other teammate this season, managing team-highs in three major statistics: averaging 13.2 points, seven rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Gerhart scored in double-digits in 19 of 25 game appearances. Autumn Hill also shines on the court, showcasing her defensive prowess by ranking 21st in Division-III with an average of 2.5 blocked shots per game. Kennedy Brown averaged 11.1 points per game in NWC play, scoring 27 three-pointers over 16 games taking fifth in most 3-pt field goals per game in the NWC.

The Loggers boast 11-5 in conference play with the largest winning streak of six straight games, while the Pioneers have won in nine consecutive games and 18 of their last 19. The Pioneers ranked ninth in the country in scoring offense with 80.4 points per game, ranked second in 3-point percentage shooting for 38.4 percent, fourth in field goal percentage, 48.2 percent, and sixth in assists with 18.6 points per game. The Pioneers are shooting for 48.2 percent from the field, 38.4 percent from 3-point range, and 68.9 percent from the free throw line.
