Softball suffers double defeat in opening season tournament in Tucson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – The Puget Sound Softball team opened the season with a 9-0 loss to Tabor College and then a 10-0 loss to Ottawa University Arizona at the Tucson Invitational Games in Arizona on Friday.

Puget Sound 0, Tabor College 9 (five innings)

The Loggers went to five innings in the opening loss to Tabor College, but Kimora Phillips and Brenna Flannery each got a hit. Phillips drilled a double to left field in the first inning and Brenna hit a single to shortstop in the third inning. Tabor scored six runs in the first inning, four of which were unearned runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Tabor College scored three earned runs to finish the game early in 9-0 loss for the Loggers. 


Puget Sound 0, Ottawa University 10 (five innings)

Four Loggers had hits against Ottawa, Kimora Phillips was the first to get a double in the bottom of the first. Claire Besancon followed with a single to right field in the fourth inning and Jazzy Allen smacked a single to left field shortly after. Aislynn O'Reilly bat for a double in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't enough to score and catch up to Ottawa. 

The game was scoreless through the first two innings until Ottawa scored on a bunt, then stole home to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Ottawa ran through their lineup in the top of the fifth scoring eight runs to end the game early. 

Nyomi Estrada pitched for four innings and earned five strikeouts in her first appearance with the Loggers. 

The Loggers will face Valley City State University (N.D.) and Drew University, tomorrow, March 2, at 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. as the Tucson Invitational Tournament continues.
