Besancon, Moore score home runs to drive the Loggers to a 1-1 split with Pacific University

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound softball team finished strong in a 1-1 split with the Pacific University Boxers on Friday afternoon after Claire Besancon and Jessica Moore both scored home runs. 

In the second game, Besancon tripled in the bottom of the first to start a four-run inning that ended with three hits for the Loggers. The Boxers scored three in the second inning, but the Loggers maintained their lead scoring two more in when Besancon homered in the bottom of the second. 

The Boxers would homer in the top of the fourth and take the lead shortly after, scoring in three runs on three hits and adding one more in the fifth inning. Then, Moore homered in the bottom of the fifth to reduce the deficit to one run. 

The Loggers went into the final inning trailing, 8-7. Moore kept the game alive with a double to left field, followed by a double from Mikayla Johnson to score in Moore, then Hope Fleischman and Jazzy Allen added two singles to score in Johnson and take the victory. 

Freshman Nyomi Estrada pitched seven innings adding six strikeouts to the win. 

In the first game, the Loggers had one triple from Brenna Flannery adding hits from Aislinn O'Reailly, Kimora Phillips and Ema Kessler. No one scored in the first inning, but the Boxers jumped out with four runs in the second inning and adding three more in the fourth inning.

The Loggers scored two runs off two hits in the third inning with hits from Phillips and O'Reilly. The Boxers would score one more in the sixth inning to solidify the first win. 

The Loggers will be back to square off once more with the Pacific Boxers in another doubleheader tomorrow, March 9, at noon and 2 p.m.
