TACOMA, Wash. – The Loggers delivered an eight-run surge in the second inning to secure an 11-3 win against Lewis and Clark College on Sunday afternoon.
Davis Franklin led the Loggers going 3-for-4 at bat with two RBIs and two runs, while
Jack McCullar and
Drew Kamihara each delivered three RBIs.
In the 1st inning, Lewis and Clark managed to get a hit and a walk but didn't score any runs, leaving two on base. Puget Sound's response started strong with a run scored thanks to an error by Lewis and Clark's third baseman. Despite only one hit, the Loggers took the lead.
Then, in the bottom of the 2nd inning the Loggers exploded offensively, scoring eight runs. The rally started with a single from Nathan Blocher accompanied by a single from Preston Crockett to score in Hirano, who was initially walked. Kamihara and Franklin both followed with doubles to left center to triple the lead, 6-0. The Loggers weren't finished as McCullar double to left field to score in two more, Brock Makishima was the last RBI scored after he grounded out to second base. Two more Loggers would get on base before a strikeout would end the inning.
Lewis and Clark managed to score one run in the 3rd inning, but the Loggers pitcher Brett Harvey limited the damage.
A few scoreless inning's followed, until the 5th inning as the Loggers extended their lead with a groundout from Makana Murashige to score in Crockett. Then again in the 7th inning, the Loggers got two hits to score one more.
It wasn't until the top of the 9th inning that the Pioneers mounted a comeback adding four hits to the board, but only converting two runs snd leaving two on base.
Harvey pitched 6.0 innings for one earned run and seven strikeouts in the win.
The Puget Sound Loggers head to Oregon for the Linfield series on April 20-21, first pitch at noon on both days.
