Game Recap: Softball |

Logger softball falls in double loss to Whitworth Pirates

SPOKANE, Wash. The Puget Sound softball team fell to an 8-0 loss, followed by a 10-0 loss on Sunday in a Northwest Conference match against Whitworth University.

Game 1: Puget Sound 0, Whitworth 8

The Whitworth Pirates showcased a dominant performance controlling the game from the outset.

Whitworth's offense came alive early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jessica Johnson's RBI single and a subsequent error by Puget Sound allowed the Pirates to take an early lead.

Puget Sound struggled to respond, with their offense unable to find its rhythm against Whitworth's pitching. Despite managing a few hits throughout the game, Puget Sound was unable to capitalize and bring any runners home.

Meanwhile, Whitworth continued to extend its lead, adding four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Key hits from Jamie Rusconi and Hannah Montoya contributed to the Pirates' offensive surge.

The game concluded with Whitworth shutting out Puget Sound, securing the win in five innings with a final score of 8-0.

Game 2: Puget Sound 0, Whitworth 11

The Pirates seized control early in the second game and maintained their momentum throughout.

In the bottom of the first inning, Whitworth wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Jessica Johnson's timely single brought in two runs, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Puget Sound struggled to respond, with their offense unable to find gaps in Whitworth's defense. Despite some defensive plays, Puget Sound couldn't prevent Whitworth's relentless scoring.

As the game progressed, Whitworth continued to pile on the runs, extending their lead with each inning. Hits from Hannah Montoya, Jessica Johnson, and others contributed to Whitworth's offensive onslaught.

In the bottom of the third inning, Whitworth exploded with seven runs, effectively putting the game out of reach for Puget Sound. Key hits and aggressive baserunning stretched Whitworth's lead to 10-0.

Puget Sound's attempts to rally fell short, as Whitworth's pitching and defense remained solid throughout the game.

The Loggers will head to Salem, Oregon for a Northwest Conference series against Willamette University on April 20-21.
