TACOMA, Wash. — In a high-scoring Tacoma rivalry match against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, the Puget Sound Loggers lost 18-12 after an 11-run seventh inning on Tuesday at Logger Field.
Charlie Deggeller led off for the Loggers going 2-for-3 at bat and running in three times, while
Davis Franklin grabbed three hits and two RBIs in the loss.
The Lutes wasted no time making their mark in the top of the first inning. A series of well-executed hits, including singles from Rochne Beecham, Aaron Barber, and Brody Phinney, allowed them to take an early lead, scoring a total of three runs.
However, the Loggers quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, fueled by the hitting prowess of Charlie Deggeller and Davis Franklin. Their offensive surge saw them amass five runs, swiftly turning the tide of the game in their favor.
The Lutes fought back valiantly in subsequent innings, with both teams exchanging blows in a relentless offensive battle. The game reached its climax in the seventh inning when the Lutes unleashed a barrage of hits, driving in an impressive 11 runs and seizing a commanding lead.
Despite a late-game rally by the Loggers, highlighted by a two-run homer from Zach Robman in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lutes maintained their advantage, ultimately securing a hard-fought victory with a final score of 18-12.
Logger baseball heads to Walla Walla for a Whitman College series beginning on, April 6, at noon.
