Loggers battle to 12-11 win at Linfield University

McMinnville, Ore. — Davis Franklin went 4-for-5 at bat with three RBIs and a homerun in the 12-11 win at Linfield University on Sunday afternoon at Roy Helser Field.

In the top of the first inning, Puget Sound came out strong. Davis Franklin drew the first hit, a single to right field and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Makana Murashige followed with a double to left center, bringing Franklin to third. Then, Jack McCullar hit a massive home run to left field, bringing in three runs. The inning ended with Puget Sound leading 3-0.

Linfield fought back in the bottom of the first. After a ground-out, Danny Kahn doubled to right center, followed by a single from Elijah Maris that brought Kahn home. Another single and an error allowed Maris to score, closing the gap to 3-2.

The second and third innings passed without any runs for either team. However, Puget Sound widened their lead in the top of the fourth. After loading the bases, Franklin walked, bringing in a run. Then, Murashige walked, adding another run, making it 5-2.

Linfield responded strongly in the bottom of the fourth. They capitalized on hits and walks to score four runs, taking the lead with a score of 6-5.

In the fifth inning, Puget Sound regained the lead. They scored four runs, with key hits from Drew Kamihara, Franklin, and Murashige, putting them ahead 9-6.

Linfield managed to score a run in the bottom of the fifth, narrowing the gap to 9-7.

In the sixth inning, Puget Sound extended their lead once again. With some well-placed hits, they brought in two more runs, making it 11-7.

Puget Sound's Davis Franklin added another run in the seventh with a solo home run, increasing their lead to 12-7.

However, Linfield staged a dramatic comeback in the bottom of the ninth. They scored three unearned runs due to errors, narrowing the score to 12-10. With two outs and runners on the corners, Kahn delivered a clutch single to right center, bringing Linfield within one run. The Loggers caught the final fly ball scoring 12 runs on 13 hits in the win. 

The Loggers will return home for their final home series against Pacific University on April 27-28.
