Logger women's lacrosse edged in 14-13 loss to Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – In an intense showdown between the Puget Sound Loggers and the Linfield Wildcats the Loggers were unable to stay on top as the Wildcats scored in the final minute of play to take the 14-13 victory on Saturday.

The first period of the match kicked off with high energy and intense gameplay, the Loggers struck first with a goal from Mimi Carrier-Berndt, but their lead was quickly matched by Linfield's Mackenzie Kulick. Linfield would score two more before Cat Schilli and Michaela Chen would even the score in the fifth and sixth minutes of play, both scoring on power plays. Maya Sheklow would soon take charge and help the Loggers take back the lead with consecutive goals to end the first period up, 5-4.

In the second period, the Wildcats continued to battle fiercely, taking the lead again. However, with Schilli delivering two crucial goals, the Loggers made an offensive push with goals from Maggie Ott and another from Chen. The period ended with Puget Sound leading 9-6.

The third period saw impressive defense as the teams traded possession back-and-forth. In the 8th minute, Schilli delivered the first goal, an impressive shot while man-down. With the pressure mounting, the Wildcats fought back, taking an offensive charge with four goals in four minutes, tying the game. Maya Sheklow led the next charge for the Loggers, scoring just before the final period and taking an 11-10 lead.

In the final period, Puget Sound showed resilience, with Kaitlin Wallace and Cat Schilli scoring vital goals. However, the Wildcats proved too strong, ultimately securing victory with a final score of 14-13.

The Loggers head to George Fox University, for their final regular season face-off at 1 p.m.
