TACOMA, Wash. — The Puget Sound softball team struggled to get on the scoreboard in a double loss to the undefeated Linfield University, Sunday, on Logger Field. The Loggers finished two 5-inning games, 8-0 and 13-1, as the Loggers fall to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
Game 1: Puget Sound 0, Linfield 8
In a challenging faceoff against Linfield, Puget Sound struggled to keep pace as the visiting team established an early lead, setting the tone for the game.
During the top of the first inning, Linfield wasted no time asserting their dominance. The first batter doubled followed by an error by the Loggers shortstop. Linfield's Claire Seats powered through with a three-run homer followed by three outs delivered by Logger pitcher Aislinn O'Reilly.
Despite their best efforts, Puget Sound couldn't muster a response in the bottom of the inning, with all three batters unable to reach base.
Linfield's momentum continued into the second inning, adding two more runs to their lead, leaving Puget Sound with an uphill battle to climb.
While Puget Sound managed to prevent Linfield from scoring in subsequent innings, their own offense struggled to gain traction, with key strikeouts and outs preventing any significant breakthroughs.
As the game progressed, Linfield maintained their lead, with Puget Sound unable to mount a comeback. Freshman Jessica Hendrickx pitched her first innings as a Logger allowing only one run.
Game 2: Puget Sound 1, Linfield 13
Linfield established another early 4-0 lead that despite Puget Sound's efforts, they were unable to respond to during the bottom of the inning, with two batters striking out and a fly ball to end the inning.
The second inning didn't fare any better for the Loggers as Linfield extended their lead by three more runs including a home run from Jacey Leyvas.
Despite managing to prevent Linfield from scoring in the third inning, Puget Sound struggled to make a dent in their opponent's lead, only managing to score one run in the bottom of the third thanks to Brenna Flannery's home run, her first as a Logger.
Linfield continued their offensive onslaught in the fourth inning, adding two more runs to their tally, further widening the gap between the two teams.
As the game progressed into the fifth inning, Puget Sound still found themselves unable to break Linfield's momentum, failing to score any additional runs.
The Loggers had six errors on the day, despite their efforts, Puget Sound couldn't match Linfield's offensive prowess.
The Loggers will head to Spokane for a Northwest Conference Whitworth series on April 13-14.
