Logger lacrosse struggles against Linfield in 17-7 loss

TACOMA, Wash. – Phoebe Crowther had a career-high 13 saves and Cat Schilli performed another hat trick scoring four goals in the 17-7 loss to Linfield University on Sunday afternoon in Baker Stadium.

Linfield took control early on with a goal from Leah Stednick just 30 seconds into the game. Quickly followed by another Linfield goal, the Loggers defense would toughen up to get off four shots on the attack. The Linfield Wildcats would grab one more goal in the last 30 seconds to take a 3-0 lead.

In the second period, Linfield continuing their dominance, with Gabby Crist scoring another goal. Despite Puget Sound's efforts, Linfield's defense caused turnovers, and their offense capitalized with goals from Maya Wright, Starr Pfleiger, and Savannah Irwin.

Puget Sound managed to score two goals during this period, courtesy of Cat Schilli and Bailey Fuhrmann, but Linfield maintained a comfortable lead, ending the first half 7-2.

The Wildcats continued into the third period with four more goals. However, Puget Sound fought back with goals from Bailey Fuhrmann and Michaela Chen, her first of the season. Cat Schilli showed her offensive prowess snatching the next draw control and taking it straight to the back of the net, leaving the Wildcats stunned.

In the final period, Linfield continued to dominate, scoring five more goals, including two from Starr Pfleiger and one each from Gabby Crist, Chandler Maizri, and Savannah Irwin. Puget Sound managed to score two more goals from Cat Schilli, but it was not enough to overcome Linfield's lead.

Linfield had five green cards and three yellow cards, but outshot the Loggers 46-19, who struggled to convert clears and gain possession on draw controls. The Loggers fall to 1-5 in Northwest Conference play and 2-7 overall.

The Loggers will head to Salem, Oregon to face Willamette University at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.
