TACOMA, Wash. – The Logger softball team celebrated six seniors after a tense showdown between town rivals, the Puget Sound Loggers clashed with the Pacific Lutheran Lutes in their final regular season home match on Saturday. Despite a valiant effort, the Loggers fell short in the doubleheader against the Lutes falling 9-2, 13-4.
Game 1: Puget Sound 2, Pacific Lutheran 9
The game commenced with a scoreless first innings for both teams, with strong defensive plays on display. However, the Lutes gained momentum in the top of the fourth inning, securing a three-run lead courtesy of four hits and solid baserunning.
The Loggers fought back in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Mikayla Johnson's double driving in their first run. Jazzy Allen's single brought in another run, narrowing the gap to 3-2.
The Lutes extended their lead in the fifth and sixth innings, capitalizing on opportunities and driving in additional runs. Despite efforts to rally in subsequent innings, the Loggers struggled to overcome the Lutes' lead.
As the game progressed into the later innings, both teams showcased their defensive prowess, but the Loggers couldn't muster enough offense to turn the tide in their favor.
Game 2: Puget Sound 4, Pacific Lutheran 13
In the second game of a doubleheader, the game kicked off again with scoreless first innings for both teams. However, the Lutes managed to break the deadlock in the third inning, capitalizing on an error to score their first run.
The Loggers fought back in the bottom of the third inning, with Jessica Moore's single driving in their first run followed by Johnson's homer, putting them ahead 3-1.
However, the Lutes mounted a relentless offense, scoring multiple runs in the fifth and sixth innings, extending their lead significantly.
Despite a late rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by Moore's double and Johnson's RBI, the Loggers couldn't overcome the Lutes' commanding lead.
The Puget Sound Logger softball team finished the regular season, 5-23, in Northwest Conference and 7-29, overall.
