Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, Calif - (Saturday, August. 31) - Junior defender Leila Hausia-Haugen netted the solo Logger goal on Saturday as they visited the #1 California Lutheran squad, who won the 2023 DIII National Championships.
Head Coach and former USWNT player Stephanie Cox emphasized the efforts of the Loggers' fall camp. "We have talked about knowing who we are and our team defending is foundational to our identity." The Loggers led Cal Lutheran for the majority of the game. "Our team played fiercely yesterday - all over the pitch - and I am so proud of how hard they played against the defending National Champions."
Cox quickly noted as well that the Logger side was efficient in their attack, playing with a confidence that resulted in a slew of goal-scoring opportunities. Hausia-Haugen's goal caught Cal Lutheran on their heels as the result of a corner kick set play. This is the first matchup between these two sides that has ended in a tie since the Loggers first played Cal Lutheran in 2001. Historically, the Loggers have a record of 3-1-1 against the Cal Lutheran "Kingsmen and Regals". While the Loggers were undoubtedly aiming for a notch in the win column, this strong performance against the reigning National Champions is definitely a morale boost for the Maroon & White as they look forwards to two more ranked opponents this week. Â
