Volleyball Begins Preseason Against NCAA DII Seattle Pacific University Falcons

Box Score SEATTLE, Wash. (Saturday, Aug. 31)  - Coming off of several weeks of intensive training, Puget Sound Volleyball took on the defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions, Seattle Pacific in its opening match of the season on Saturday. The DII Falcons were able to take the win in three sets starting the Loggers at 0-1 for the young season.  

The Loggers outhit the Falcons in set one, hitting for .322 off of 14 kills to Seattle Pacific's .254 hitting percentage, but Seattle Pacific rallied to take the set 24-26. Set two proved to be another back-and-forth game with Puget Sound once again creating opportunities. The Falcon's defense helped close out the set with a 24-26 score. Down two sets, the Loggers were unable to make a run in set three, falling 19-25 to close out the match 0-3 on the day.  

Leading all Loggers was freshman middle-hitter Maddie Badger with 10 kills and a .600 hitting percentage. Also strong at the net was outside hitter Erin Fagan with seven kills along with Makela Pick logging six kills. Defensively, libero Samantha Keightley led all Loggers with 11 digs. As a team, Puget Sound had 10 block assists for the match.  

Puget Sound will head out on the road for four matches in Southern California next weekend. The Loggers will first face Chapman University and Whittier College on Friday before facing Pomona-Pitzer and LaVerne on Saturday. Puget Sound will have its first home match of the season on Friday, September 20th to start Northwest Conference play against the Bearcats of Willamette University. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
