TACOMA, Washington (September 22, 2024) - Senior striker
Zoe Fowler made it her job to continue pushing the boundaries of the Willamette Bearcat defense this afternoon, and her efforts paid off greatly. Assisted by
Sydney Boyd and
Leila Hausia-Haugen, Fowler was rewarded for her consistent great positioning with a simple tap-in equalizer in the 85th minute.
The Loggers were knocking, and knocking, and knocking on the Bearcats' door all afternoon, and in the haste of the final minutes of the game, were able to get on the board. Puget Sound had little trouble penetrating the Willamette defense from the first kickoff - but the ball just wasn't in a rush to find the back of the net. Both
Zoe Witter and
Kya Scott were instrumental in the Loggers' success with five shots on goal each. They, as well as Hausia-Haugen, worked hard to keep the Willamette back line on their toes by consistently shifting their pressures; through balls, give-and-goes, and plenty of long balls over the top. They forced the Bearcats' high pressing defense work to recover and defend on a repeated basis. The Loggers ended the game with a staggering 23 shots, 11 of them on target. Alternatively, the Bearcats only had seven shots, four of them on goal.
The Loggers take on Pacific Lutheran in Lakewood on Wednesday evening, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00pm.
