REDLANDS, Calif. (Sept. 6, 2024) - Loggers Men's Soccer was unable to pull ahead this evening against Redlands after a delayed start due to excessive heat as the result of a nearby brush fire pumping smoke onto the field.
After nearly an hour of a delay, the match began. Redlands quickly took the lead in the 27th minute, with Phillip Kostenko netting the first of his two goals for the night after an assist from Bulldogs teammate Zach Darmanyan.
Just before the half, Puget Sound junior defender Connor Barnes was issued a yellow card. Then, just after half, Redlands sophomore defender Terran Reyes was also given a yellow. Logger Liam Elliott was also issued a yellow in the 67th minute, just before Nolean Bowler took advantage of a goalkeeper substitution and scored the equalizer, assisted by both Jackson Smith and Kody Carmel.Â
Five minutes later, momentum swung back in the favor of the Bulldogs. Phillip Kostenko scored his second goal to put Redlands back on top with limited time to play remaining. The Loggers finished the match with only two shots on target to the Bulldogs' seven. Puget Sound goalkeeper Ryan Saunders came up big with five saves, keeping the Loggers in the match as long as possible.
In all, Puget Sound received four yellow cards and one red card (Etienne Polak), and the Bulldogs were nearly equally punished for their actions, receiving four yellow cards.
The Loggers next play Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, CA on Sunday, Sept. 8th at 11:00am.
