PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Loggers take down the Pios for their tenth win in a row, starting the second half of conference play strong.
How it Happened
The first set was a close one, as Puget Sound needed an extra point to secure a 26-24 victory. Lewis & Clark started off strong, taking an early 4-2 lead over the visiting Loggers. A couple of attack errors, along with a kill by
Maddie Badger and an ace by
Lauren Ly, helped the Loggers secure a 5-0 run and a 7-4 lead.
The Loggers continued to play well, piecing together a 7-2 run to extend their lead to seven.
Mia Fedota got in on the action, picking up two kills during that span. The Pios, powered by solid serving by Isabel Melean-Williams, picked up an 11-2 run to take back the lead. Lewis and Clark showed why they're the best serving team in the conference, picking up three aces during their run.
Facing an 18-21 deficit, the Loggers found an extra push to the finish line. They proved why they're the No. 1 team in the conference, as
Makela Pick and
Mackenzie Leith both picked up kills en route to a 6-2 closing run.
Samantha Keightley polished off the set with back-to-back service aces, propelling the Loggers to a narrow first-set win.
The second set was back to regular scheduled programming, with Puget Sound jumping out to an opening 8-4 lead.
Erin Fagan, Badger, and Leith all recorded kills, easing into the match with powerful hitting. A 9-3 run gave the Loggers a 17-9 advantage, with seven of their nine points coming via a kill. The points kept on coming, as Keightley finished off the set by serving yet again, this time setting up two Fagan kills to take set two, 25-13.
The third set was the Loggers' best yet, not letting the Pios into the set at all.
Amelia Reed kicked the match off with two aces, and
Gianna Friendy followed with two of her own shortly after. Plenty of Loggers got in on the action, as
Ursula Harrington picked up a kill,
Viviann Garcia picked up a block, and
Chamberlin Farley got an ace of her own. The team blinked and found themselves up 17-4. A final kill by
Flannery Lundgren polished off the match, with the team taking the third set 25-8.
