Scoreless Draw Against PLU Keeps Loggers Within Reach of NWC Title

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers played well, but couldn't find the deciding goal in a 0-0 Tie against Pacific Lutheran.

How it Happened
In a game between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the conference, Puget Sound came ready to play. They outshot the Lutes 14-2, keeping on the front foot for the majority of the game.

Zoe Witter just missed a shot in the third minute, and Leila Hausia-Haugen barely missed in the 14th for the Loggers' first two shots of the day. They kept berating the goal, as A shot by Ella Oetinger in the 25th minute forced a diving save by the PLU keeper. Back-to-back corner kicks ensued, as the Loggers had two more great chances at the opening goal.

The best chance of the day came in the 33rd minute, as Sydney Boyd found herself one-on-one with the goalie. A chip shot at the goal bounced off the right woodwork, as she came within inches of the net. Hausia-Haugen also hit the right post four minutes later, coming ever so close to scoring her eighth goal of the season.

The second half was one of the same, as the Loggers poured on three shots within the first 13 minutes of the second half. Anya Dubois and Bre Fulton-Kaneshiro got in on the action, as over half of the starters made an effort on goal.

The Lutes also had a shot of their own go off the crossbar, but they couldn't convert their second shot of the day in the 75th minute. A corner kick in the 84th minute was the final chance for the Loggers, as Ellie Rutkin missed just left. They settled for a 0-0 draw, their third of the season.

Top Performers
Gianna Maldonado kept yet another clean sheet, as the Loggers' back line kept the explosive Lutes' offense in check. Boyd and Hausia-Haugen also led the team with three shots apiece.

Coach's Thoughts
"We played well enough to win the game today no doubt about it, so from that standpoint, a bit disappointed with the tie," said Logger head coach Stephanie Cox. "Despite the result, I really like how we're playing and I'm confident we'll continue to give ourselves chances and score goals moving forward. Go Loggers!"

What Happens Next
The Loggers take on the Willamette Bearcats Saturday, October 25th, at 12:00 pm.
