TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers have a great night offensively, sweeping the Wildcats 3-0 to conclude their homestretch.
How it Happened
The first set got off to a simple start for Puget Sound, as the first 12 collective points were decided in four hits or fewer.
Makela Pick got things started with a kill, as the Loggers got off to a 9-5 start.
Mia Fedota had a pair of kills of her own, giving the Loggers some energy. Three straight kills by
Randi Rush,
Mackenzie Leith, andn
Maddie Badger made it 17-9, propelling the Loggers ahead. A pair of attack errors made it 23-15, but the Wildcats weren't done yet. A 7-0 run put the set within one, but a service error helped the Loggers to a 25-23 victory.
The second set was played with a foot on the gas pedal mentality. The Loggets jumped out to a 7-2 run thanks to a kill by Badger and a pair of aces, and extended their lead to nine on a kill by Leith. Playing with a 14-5 lead, Puget Sound put the pedal to the medal. An 11-5 run crushed any momentum the Wildcats had, as another Badger kill to end it was the cherry on top.
The third set was closer, but still more of the same. The Loggers continued to prove why they're so dominant, as a couple of kills by Pick helped the Loggers to an early 8-5 lead. Libero
Samantha Keightley then went on an impressive service run, recording three aces in four points to push the lead to six – 14-8. Linfield pulled the lead back to four, but a 7-2 run to end it gave the Loggers a 25-16 set two victory.
Top Performers
Badger led the team in kills yet again with 10, hitting .769 with two solo blocks. Pick and Leith had seven and eight kills respectively, while Keightley led the team with 12 digs. Rush continued to average over 10 assists/set, picking up 31 in a "light" night for the Loggers' setter.
Coach's Thoughts
"We had a very complete win tonight – I was most impressed with how "cleanly" we played, with only 6 attack errors the entire match," said Loggers head coach
Mark Massey. "Randi did a great job getting our hitters in the right spots, and they did a great job of delivering the mail. We were equally as good digging, with 3 players – Akira, Erin, and Amelia – posting big dig numbers. Linfield battled hard, so we were happy to adjust to each new thing they threw at us."
What Happens Next
The Loggers hit the road for five games, heading to the Whits next weekend. They face off against Whitman in Walla Walla, Wash., at 7:00 pm on October 10th.
