CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Puget Sound's win streak comes to an end against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, dropping the final match of their California trip 64-86.
How it Happened
The Stags jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as the Loggers played catch-up the entirety of the game. CMS started with a 5-14 lead, but a three by
Khaled Artharee gave the Loggers a burst of energy.
Despite a stag run, the Loggers started to pull back in the game. An Artharee tip-in, jumper by Zane Miler, and a three-pointer by
Dezman Baker pulled the Loggers back into the game. Now down 31-33, Puget Sound was firmly back in the game. A pair of buckets on both sides of the court put the Stags up four heading into halftime, but the Loggers were in a good spot against a top team in the nation.
Hugo Rutherford started out the first half with a layup, putting the Loggers the closest they would get to the Stags the rest of the game. The game slowly started to slip away from Puget Sound, though, as all of a sudden they found themselves down 40-50. Three minutes later, they went down 19, as the Loggers couldn't quite find their rhythm offensively.
Despite the loss, the Loggers continued to show the depth of their roster. Eighteen players saw time on the court, all working in the system and showing that they can hang with one of the best teams in the west. They head home with a 2-1 record against SCIAC teams - a good trip overall.
What Happens Next
The Loggers head up to Seattle on Wednesday, December 3rd, for an exhibition match against Seattle University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
