TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers cruised to an 86-50 victory over the Northwest Indian College Eagles, getting out to a quick start and sailing the rest of the way.
How it Happened
After the Eagles got off to a 3-2 start, it was all Puget Sound in the first half. The Loggers responded with a 7-0 run thanks to buckets by
Aaydan Saucedo,
Ian Cook, and
Dezman Baker, making the score 9-3 early. A three by
Zane Miller, and a quick bucket by
Khaled Artharee pushed the Logger lead to nine, but the Eagles showed some fight. NWIC pulled it back 16-10, but an impressive 16-3 run made it 32-13 with just under six minutes to go in the first half.
Jonathan Guy got hot, knocking down a pair of free throws and a three-ball, as another Saucedo triple pushed the Logger lead to 23. A pair of layups by Miller capped off the Logger scoring for the half, but their defense was the name of the game. Puget Sound played with a poised identity, forcing turnovers and holding the Eagles to 19 points in the first half – 46-19.
The second half was a bit more back-and-forth, but the Loggers' lead was comfortable throughout the game. An early run in the second half extended the lead to 35, but the Eagles went on a small run to make it 59-31. With the minutes being spread equally in the second half, everyone on the team was able to contribute. The entire roster played well, as Connor Maguire started to put together a couple of good possessions. A final late run by NWIC made it a 36-point game, as the Loggers took this one, 86-50.
Coach's Thoughts
"Complete performance from start to finish. Top of the rotation took care of business early, and the rest of the rotation kept it going. Thought we played one of our best defensive games of the year and shared the ball well offensively. Happy to get a good win going into finals week."
What Happens Next
The Loggers take a small break, but stay at home to face UC Santa Cruz at 4:00 pm on December 27th.
