LOS ANGELES, California (February 14, 2025) – The Loggers opened up the 2025 season with a 6-4 win over the Occidental Tigers.
The Loggers were first on the board, scoring three runs in the top of the first.
Drew Kamihara led off against the Tigers and was hit by a pitch to advance to first. Next up at bat was
Makana Murashige, who walked onto first. An error by the Tigers pitcher allowed Kamihara to advance to third.
Brock Makishima hit a single and Kamihara scored the first run for the Loggers while Murashige advanced to third. On the next at bat,
Kahiau Teruya walked, allowing Makishima to advance to second. With the bases loaded,
Cooper Allen hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field and Murashige scored the second run for the Loggers.
In the bottom of the first, the Tigers hit a ground ball to land on second base, and the next batter hit a single to center field generating enough distance for their runner to score. The Tigers followed this up with another run during the second inning, and again in the fourth to take the lead.
In the fifth inning, Murashige, Makishima, and Teruya were able to reach bases. With bases loaded, Allen hit a line drive towards left field and landed on second base to bring the three runners home.
Two more runs were scored by each team in the seventh inning, to end the game 6-4. While the Tigers scored two home runs, the Loggers executed better at the plate and therefore left less runners stranded. Additionally, the Loggers made no errors the duration of the game compared to the two by the Tigers that led to UPS runs.
Offensive standouts include
Cody Hirano, who got on base three times with two hits and a walk. Allen also led the Loggers with 4 RBI.
Mason Seay gets the win having pitched 3.2 innings and only giving up one run.
The two teams will play again tomorrow in a double header matchup starting at 11:00am.
