TACOMA, Washington (February 14, 2025) – In a close contest matchup, the Loggers (12-11, 7-7 NWC) pulled ahead in the second half to secure a crucial 88-76 victory over the Pioneers (11-11, 7-6 NWC).
The Loggers and the Pioneers were within two or three points for the majority of the first half. Both teams went back and forth, but the Pioneers held the lead for over 13 minutes, while the Loggers only had the advantage for under five. With eight minutes left to play, the Pioneers went up by six. Neither team was able to score for the next five minutes, but
Taj Phillips was able to cut the Pioneer lead to four with a free throw. A field goal from
Will Pohland and another pair of free throws from Phillips coupled with a layup brought the Loggers within two points at halftime.
Seven seconds in the second half,
Liam Ruttledge scores two to tie the game. Both teams traded baskets, but the Loggers eventually took the lead off a three-pointer by Phillips. The game remained close, but the Loggers were in the driver's seat. At the 11-minute mark, the Loggers went on a 7-0 run to decisively take the lead. The Loggers continued to break away, with their largest lead of 13 points coming with only 15 seconds left in the game.
Taj Phillips led the Loggers tonight with 22 points, 10 assists – putting him at the top of the Puget Sound all-time with 504 assists – and seven rebounds.
Liam Ruttledge followed close behind with 21 points and six rebounds.
The Loggers will play their last two conference games next weekend against Willamette and George Fox as they vie for a spot in the playoffs.
