Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. – A five-run ninth inning powered the Puget Sound baseball team to an 8-2 victory over Redlands on Sunday, keeping the Loggers unbeaten at 4-0 on the season.
With the game locked in a tight 3-2 battle heading into the final frame, Puget Sound's offense came alive. Senior first baseman
Jim O'Brien delivered the decisive blow, launching a three-run home run to right field to cap off a big inning for the Loggers. O'Brien finished the day 2-for-5 with four RBIs, while
Cody Hirano added a two-run single in the ninth to give Puget Sound breathing room.
Puget Sound's pitching staff put together a strong collective effort, holding Redlands to just six hits. Starter
Preston Crockett went three innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.
Mitchell Holliday (1-0) earned the win after tossing two shutout innings in relief. The Loggers used seven total pitchers, with
Zach Robman closing out the game with a dominant ninth inning, striking out two.
Redlands (6-2) struck first in the second inning on an RBI single from Chase Brown, but the Bulldogs' offense was stifled for most of the afternoon. They managed to tie the game at 2-2 in the sixth after a wild pitch allowed them to score, but they were unable to generate any runs beyond that.
Offensively, the Loggers tallied 10 hits, with
Kahiau Teruya also recording a multi-hit game.
Makana Murashige reached base three times and stole a base, while Hirano and O'Brien provided the bulk of the run production.
Puget Sound next faces Linfield in McMinnville on Friday, February 21st.
