TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team struggled to find momentum against a dominant George Fox squad, falling 7-0 this Saturday afternoon at home. The Loggers (1-4) faced stiff competition from the undefeated Bruins (3-0), who controlled both doubles and singles play from start to finish.
George Fox set the tone early by sweeping the doubles competition. The top duo of Kalli Wiker and Riley Bobkiewicz secured a convincing 6-1 victory over Puget Sound's
Kaylee Yamada and
Paige Shinall. Similarly, the Denham sisters, Shanah and Sophie, won their match 6-1, as did Arianna Rader and Juhree Kizziar, completing the doubles sweep - also winning 6-1.
The Loggers put up a fight in singles play but ultimately could not overcome the Bruins' consistency. In the No. 1 singles match, Yamada battled Wiker in a tightly contested first set before falling 7-5, 6-3. At the No. 4 spot,
Hyla Chatham forced a competitive first set against Sophie Denham but lost 7-5, 6-0.
Other matches saw George Fox maintain its dominance, with Bobkiewicz defeating Shinall (6-1, 6-3) and Shanah Denham overpowering
Krishna Agrawal (6-1, 6-3). Abigail Bond and Cassey Hitch completed the Bruins' sweep with straight-set victories over
Zoe Richter and
Ginger Parker, respectively.
Puget Sound will aim to regroup as they prepare for their next match when they take on Linfield tomorrow at home. Despite the loss, the Loggers showed flashes of resilience, particularly in the early stages of singles play. They will look to build on those moments as the season progresses.
