TACOMA, Wash. – Linfield secured a 5-2 victory over Puget Sound in Northwest Conference women's tennis action on Sunday at the Tennis Pavilion. The Wildcats controlled singles play after taking two of three doubles matches, earning their first conference win of the season.
Linfield's top duo of Emma Tuttle and Kaitlynn Canubida set the tone early, cruising to a 6-1 win over
Hyla Chatham and
Krishna Agrawal. Sam Baltz and Emily Redwood followed suit with a dominant 6-0 victory over
Pearl Buck and
Zoe Hughes at No. 2 doubles. Puget Sound avoided the sweep, as
Paige Shinall and
Ginger Parker delivered a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Tuttle outlasted Shinall in a hard-fought No. 1 match, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). Wildcats Canubida, Baltz, and Redwood each won in straight sets to clinch the team win for Linfield. Hughes provided a highlight for the Loggers, rallying past Sundi King in a thrilling three-set match, 5-7, 7-5, 10-4.
Zoe Richter capped the day for Puget Sound with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
With the win, Linfield improves to 1-3 in conference play (1-4 overall), while Puget Sound falls to 1-4 (1-5 overall). The Loggers will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their conference slate - next visiting Lewis & Clark on March 1st, when they face the Pioneers for the first time this season.
