McMINNVILLE, Ore. — In a back-and-forth matchup, Puget Sound came up just shy against Linfield, dropping a 4-3 decision this afternoon at Rutschman Field House.
The Loggers (1-4, 1-3 NWC) started strong in doubles play, securing two of three matches. The No. 1 duo of
Jason Rowe and
Will Church rolled past Linfield's Brooks Lerfald and Cameron Paulsen, 6-2, while
Carson Ward and
Jackson Stumpf delivered a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. However, Linfield (1-3, 1-2 NWC) clawed back, taking the No. 2 doubles match behind Rogue Stone and Abhi Acharya's 7-5 victory.
Rowe continued his dominance in singles, making quick work of Lerfald with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 win at the top spot. But Linfield responded, winning four of the remaining five singles contests. Alexander Rosenquist outlasted Church in a grueling three-setter, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, while Paulsen, Stone, and Acharya secured straight-set wins at the No. 3, 4, and 5 spots.
Stumpf provided a late highlight for the Loggers at No. 6 singles, defeating Cody Pickar 6-3, 6-4, but it wasn't enough to swing the overall result.
Puget Sound will look to bounce back in their next matchup as conference play continues - next against Lewis & Clark when the Loggers host the Pioneers on March first, their sole opponent of the weekend.
