Box Score 1 HONOLULU, Hawaii — Puget Sound's bats came alive early and never relented as the Loggers rolled past Messiah, 13-5, on Thursday at the Maulia Ola Sports Complex.
Mikayla Johnson spearheaded the offensive explosion, going 3-for-4 with six RBIs, including an inside-the-park home run and a three-run triple.
Aislind Dail showcased patience at the plate, drawing three walks while scoring twice and swiping a base.
Claire Besancon added two hits and two RBIs, while
Alyssa Figueroa crossed home plate three times.
Puget Sound struck quickly, plating three runs in the opening frame. Johnson's inside-the-park homer highlighted the inning, setting the tone for the Loggers' relentless attack. They added two in the third, two more in the fourth, and sealed the victory with a four-run fifth.
Messiah (0-1) struggled to keep pace despite a strong showing from Kandice Schlabach, who went 2-for-3 with a solo inside-the-park homer. Brielle Rosario chipped in with two hits and two RBIs, while Lucy Murphy and Hannah Dyer each tallied extra-base hits.
Nyomi Estrada (1-0) earned the win for Puget Sound, pitching four innings and allowing four earned runs on nine hits. Allison Madia shut the door in relief, surrendering just one run across two frames.
In game two, the Loggers lost momentum and the Falcons used this lull to their advantage. Puget Sound fell 6-2 at the end of seven innings to the Falcons, despite putting up two runs. The Falcons were able to capitalize on their solid batting, and the Loggers were left doing their best to catch up.
