HONOLULU, Hawaii – In a back-and-forth contest, Drew University surged late to secure a 9-6 victory over Puget Sound at the Maulia Ola Sports Complex.
Drew trailed for much of the game but came alive in the final two innings, plating six runs to flip a 6-3 deficit into a commanding lead. Teagan Bradley (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing three solid innings while allowing just one run on three hits.
Puget Sound started strong, jumping out to a 4-1 lead after two innings behind key hits from
Aislind Dail and
Alyssa Figueroa.
Katherine Avanzino doubled and drove in a run in the fifth to give the Loggers a 6-3 advantage, but the bullpen couldn't hold off Drew's late surge.
MacKenzie Pisani led the offensive charge for Drew, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Olivia Maglicano sparked the comeback with a triple in the sixth, later scoring to ignite a four-run rally. Josie Di Troia added a clutch two-run single in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Puget Sound had opportunities but left six runners stranded. Allison Madia (0-1) took the loss after surrendering six runs over the final three frames. Drew finished with 13 hits, while Puget Sound managed seven in Drew's win over the Loggers.
In the second game, the Loggers found their stride and were able to push ahead of the Sewanee Tigers, 5-3. A late-game surge in the sixth inning erased a two-run deficit and allowed the Loggers to secure the win.
Nyomi Estrada (1-0) earned the victory, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts while allowing just one hit. Reagen Huskey (0-1) suffered the loss for Sewanee, surrendering five runs on eight hits across six innings.
Sewanee (0-1) jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, plating two runs in the second inning thanks to an RBI single by Kaylie Smith and a fielder's choice that allowed another run to score. But Puget Sound (1-0) remained within striking distance before breaking through in the sixth.
Dail delivered the game-tying, two-run single, and a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Liberty Shake put the Loggers ahead for good.
Alyssa Figueroa added an RBI double earlier in the game and finished with two RBIs.
Defensively, Puget Sound turned a crucial double play in the second inning to halt a Tigers rally. Catcher
Claire Besancon led the offense with a pair of hits, including a double.
The Loggers look to continue to build momentum in their next contest, tomorrow versus SUNY at 1:00pm, and then against Emory at 3:30.
