Loggers Best Willamette

TACOMA, Wash. — The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team put on a commanding singles performance to secure a 6-1 win over Willamette University on Sunday afternoon. The Loggers bounced back from a mixed doubles outing to take five of six singles matches, sealing the Northwest Conference victory.

Kaylee Yamada led the way in a thrilling battle at No. 1 singles. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Yamada stormed back to take the second set 7-5 before clinching the match in a decisive 10-8 third-set super tiebreaker over Willamette's Richelle Suzuki.

Paige Shinall was dominant at No. 2 singles, making quick work of Sofia Spencer with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Krishna Agrawal also delivered in a three-set match at No. 3, overcoming a second-set slip to defeat Eva Lief 6-1, 2-6, 7-5.

Hyla Chatham and Zoe Hughes continued the Loggers' strong play at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, each securing straight-set victories. Chatham cruised past Ruby Thompson 6-3, 6-1, while Hughes held off Grace O'Steen in a tight first set before closing out the match 7-5, 6-0.

The lone bright spot for Willamette came at No. 6 singles, where Marie Tarrab outlasted Ginger Parker 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Doubles play was a back-and-forth affair, with Puget Sound taking two of three matches. Yamada and Shinall teamed up for a 6-4 victory at No. 1, while Agrawal and Hughes rolled to a 6-2 win at No. 3. Willamette's Thompson and Spencer grabbed the lone doubles win for the Bearcats, defeating Chatham and Parker 6-3 at No. 2.

The men's team also shut out Willamette 7-0. The Loggers controlled the match from start to finish, sweeping all three doubles matches before rolling through singles play without dropping a set.

Jason Rowe and Will Church set the tone early, securing a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over Zack Olander and Hudson Snyder. Conor Blakeney and Trent Beckman followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2, while Tyler Blixt and Jackson Stumpf closed out the doubles sweep in a tight tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), at No. 3.

Rowe carried his momentum into the top singles spot, rallying after a slow start to defeat AJ Avansino 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Church followed a similar path at No. 2, shaking off a tough first set to win 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 over Snyder.

Carson Ward made quick work of Olander at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Stumpf edged out a hard-fought battle at No. 4, overcoming an opening-set loss to take down Baily Livengood 6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-8 in a super tiebreaker.

Vincent Unpingco and Blixt closed out the match with dominant performances in the final two singles spots. Unpingco blanked Jake Freeland 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, while Blixt wrapped up the sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kai Morgan at No. 6.
