NEWBERG, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team faced a tough challenge Saturday, falling 7-0 to George Fox University at the Multi-Use Facility. The Bruins, now 11-5 on the season, controlled play from the start, sweeping both doubles and singles competition to hand the Loggers (2-9) another conference loss.
In doubles action, the top pairing of
Kaylee Yamada and
Paige Shinall put up a fight but ultimately fell 6-4 to Kalli Wiker and Arianna Rader. The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches were more decisive, with the Bruins' pairs cruising to 6-2 and 6-1 victories, respectively.
Singles play followed a similar script, as George Fox won all six matches in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Wiker showcased her dominance, dispatching Yamada 6-0, 6-1. Shanah Denham followed suit at No. 2, allowing just one game in her 6-1, 6-0 win over Shinall. The closest battle of the day came at No. 3 singles, where Puget Sound's
Krishna Agrawal battled back in the second set but ultimately fell 6-0, 6-4 to Sophie Denham.
The Loggers next face Linfield in McMinnville tomorow, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
