TACOMA, Wash. – A fast start and relentless offense propelled George Fox past Puget Sound, 14-2, in a five-inning contest early this afternoon.
The Bruins (1-0) wasted no time, launching a pair of home runs and racking up 15 hits to overpower the Loggers (0-1). Sharon Tomei led the charge with two home runs and three RBIs, while Ben Riggins added a two-run blast in the fifth inning to seal the deal.
Puget Sound found a bright spot in the second inning when
Liberty Shake crushed a two-run home run, briefly cutting the deficit to 5-2. However, George Fox responded with a steady barrage of offense, scoring in every inning and piling up six runs in the final frame.
Jordyn Relethford (1-0) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over three innings. Allison Heater picked up the save with two scoreless frames, striking out two. On the other side, Allison Madia (0-1) took the loss, surrendering 11 earned runs on 13 hits in four innings of work.
The Loggers mustered just five hits, with
Liberty Shake,
Alyssa Waldo, and
Aislind Dail each collecting one. Meanwhile, the Bruins' lineup saw contributions across the board, as eight different players recorded hits.
In game two, clutch hitting and strong pitching propelled George Fox to another win, this time to a tune of 5-2.
The Bruins got on the board in the second inning when Brooke Riggins launched a two-run homer, setting the tone for a methodical offensive effort. Riggins finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a walk, and two runs scored, while catcher Sydney Sandifer added an insurance solo shot in the seventh.
Puget Sound responded in the third, tying the game at 2-2 after an RBI single from
Alyssa Waldo and a bases-loaded walk by
Rylie Madariaga. However, the Loggers' offense stalled from there, managing just one hit the rest of the way.
Puget Sound's
Nyomi Estrada (0-1) went the distance in the loss, surrendering five runs on six hits with five strikeouts and eight walks. M. Johnson doubled for the Loggers, while Waldo and Madariaga each recorded an RBI.
The Loggers travel next weekend to visit Linfield in McMinnville.
