Baseball Shut Out at CMS

AZUSA, Calif. – The Puget Sound Loggers (7-2) yet again met a formidable opponent in the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags (7-2) on Saturday, falling 10-0 in a lopsided contest. The Loggers managed just two hits and were unable to plate a run, while the Stags' bats came alive, tallying 15 hits and four home runs in the rout.

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings before Claremont broke through in the bottom of the fourth. The Stags launched a solo home run to open the scoring, and then capitalized on timely hitting to add two more runs. Puget Sound starter Brett Harvey (1-2) allowed three runs on seven hits in just over 3 innings.

Offensively, Puget Sound struggled to generate momentum. Outfielder Nathan Blocher provided a brief highlight with a double, and left fielder Cody Hirano added a single and a stolen base. However, the Loggers were unable to string together hits against the dominant Stags' pitching.

In game two, The Puget Sound Loggers fell to CMS in another tough 10-0 loss.

Claremont struck first in the bottom of the second when the Pirates scored a home run followed by another in the third. However, the real damage came in the fourth inning when Claremont exploded for five runs. A mix of extra-base hits pushed the game out of reach.

Puget Sound's offense struggled to gain traction. The Loggers managed only two hits, a single from right fielder Aidan Sullivan in the third and a single from second baseman Jonah Velasco in the same inning. Unfortunately, Sullivan was thrown out attempting to advance to third, ending their best scoring threat of the game.

Starting pitcher C. Johnson (2-1) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on six hits over 3.2 innings. Despite the rough outing, relievers Mason Seay and Tucker Berg provided some stability out of the bullpen. Seay pitched just over 2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out one. Berg, however, ran into trouble in the seventh, surrendering a two-run homer and an RBI single, finalizing the Stags' 10-run output.

Despite the tough losses, Puget Sound aims to regain momentum in the series finale against Claremont tomorrow. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
