SPOKANE, Wash. — The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team struggled to find its rhythm Sunday morning, falling 7-0 to Whitworth at Scotford Tennis Center.
Despite a determined effort, the Loggers (1-8) couldn't keep pace with the Pirates (4-4), who controlled the match from start to finish. Doubles play set the tone early, as Whitworth secured all three matchups, including a dominant 6-0 performance by Audrey Judson and Olivia Corbett at No. 3.
Kaylee Yamada and
Paige Shinall showed flashes of resilience at No. 1 doubles but ultimately fell 6-3 to Gracie Smyley and Faith Kert.
Hyla Chatham and
Pearl Buck put up a fight at No. 2 but came up just short, 6-4.
In singles action, Smyley continued her strong play for the Pirates, defeating Yamada 6-2, 6-2 in the top-flight matchup. Shinall battled in the opening set against Kert at No. 2 but couldn't hold momentum, dropping a 7-5, 6-0 decision.
Krishna Agrawal (No. 3), Chatham (No. 4), Buck (No. 5), and
Ginger Parker (No. 6) all fell in straight sets as Whitworth completed the sweep without dropping a set.
The Loggers look to regroup as they prepare for their next match, eager to bounce back from a tough road test.
